Opposition chief and African Union Infrastructure Development envoy Raila Odinga has been very silent on his plans regarding the 2022 general elections.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader who has unsuccessfully vied for the presidency four times in the past is yet to declare whether or not he will contest in 2022.
Raila's silence regarding his 2022 plans makes him a very dangerous aspirant, as he appears like a man scheming a tough battle against his rivals.
The former Prime Minister seems to have learnt from his past mistakes where he has always been politicking from one election season to the other.
This has been giving his rivals a chance to study his game and craft good counter moves, but he now seems to have decided to lay back and launch an ambush on his rivals.
Its also obvious that keeping vocal has resulted to him saying or doing things not approved by a section of the electorate, therefore denying him the votes.
It had also seen him blamed for slowing down government operations and putting the nation in a campaign mode, landing him in trouble with Kenyans needing calm and development.
He is now trying to come to the field as a clean candidate having not offended throughout the five years he has been in the political cold, the plan being to scoop as many votes as possible.
He must have realized that President Uhuru Kenyatta will not realize his campaign promises and is trying to distance himself from the failure before using the same to endorse himself.
He is avoiding a situation where he will be blamed for derailing Uhuru's operations, and will most likely emerge later to ask Kenyans to shun Deputy President William Ruto in his favour.
He will simply term Ruto part of the failed government, but cannot do that if he keeps kicking and shouting in the arena.
The other plan could also be to give himself time to concentrate on his new African Union role and have a reason to request for Kenyans' votes once he declares his bid in 2022.
Well aware that he holds no elective position in Kenya but will need to show what he has done to get the vote, he would rather show what has done for the entire continent for better results.
Doing the same while openly engaging in politics would make it known that he is using it as a campaign tool from the word go, something he wouldn't want to be known.
Let it not be assumed that Raila is finished, he is not and never will be.
