Issuing a statement, Health CeC DrJamah  Wolde revealed of an intense vector spraying exercise against the sand fly that has already kicked off in Loglogo and Laisamis locations. The two areas are reported to have been affected the most by the disease.

Dr Wolde stated that the spray against the Kala azar vector targets at least 200 households in the two areas where fresh cases have been reported this  week alone.

In curbing the vector, the county government is expected to spend millions given the high cost of a single dose that goes for Sh 200,000

“A single dose for Kala-azar costs about Sh. 200,000 and we are also engaged in sensitization campaigns and issuance of  treated mosquito nets” Dr Wolde said as quoted by KNA

The  CEC further expressed concern that there still there were at least 27 admissions where 20 cases are at Laisamis level 4 hospital and 7 others at the Marsabit referral hospital.

New cases are continuously being reported despite upscale efforts by the devolved government to curb the vector.
