A man masquerading as Deputy President William Ruto's staunch supporter was arrested on Tuesday outsider Kericho Police Station where he had visited to surrender, reports the Standard.

Mr David Kiptoo has been on the run for weeks after a number of Kenyans among them former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo demanded for his arrest following a tweet believed to be inciting communities.

His lawyer, Benard Ng'etich was holed up in discussions with CID officers pleading for his release for the better part of Tuesday even after National Cohesion and Integration Commission Secretary Hassan Mohammed promised to have him produced in court.

Mr Kiptoo said: "I didn't do anything wrong. My remarks were misinterpreted. I am writing a statement to the same."

In his tweet, Mr Kiptoo warned of possible violence in 2022 should the Kikuyu community fail to back up DP Ruto's bid, adding that the scenario could be worse than what Kenya experienced in 2007/08.

"I am not issuing threats or inciting anybody. But the truth must be told. If [President] Uhuru [Kenyatta] betrays [William] Ruto, then everyone should be prepared for the repeat of 2007-08 [post-election violence]. It will be the worst…. Deni lazima ilipwe, ” reads part of Kiptoo's tweet

Last week, Deputy President William Ruto, who was hosting religious leaders from North Rift, said the country will remain calm no matter the outcome of 2022 polls which are already eliciting emotions.

The DP urged Kenyans to live in peace, adding that he's willing to go home should he lose in the elections. So far, he's struggling to impress within his own Jubilee party, with a section of members calling for his retirement.

"There will be no violence in this region. Politics cannot destroy our country in every election cycle. We must ensure that we are living in harmony," he said.
