Since his elevation to head development committee in cabinet, the MPs argue that Matiang'i has sidelined them due to differences in political ideologies but insisted that he will not succeed in taking over the region.

"He's too arrogant and greedy. He blocks everyone who stands his way and forgets that we have the mandate of the people. He's just an appointee and his power is limited. He fought me during elections and I beat his favourite candidate. No MP supports him," one of the MP said in an interview.

The MP was furious throughout the interview, accusing Dr Matiang'i of also using his seat to frustrate service delivery in Nyamira County. He vowed to ensure he loses ground in Nyamira.

Another MP allied to Jubilee also accused Matiang'i of undermining MPs who do not play to his tune. He warned that the career minister could fall to grace if he continues to undermine the local leadership.

"He never consults and is determined to be relevant at home. I can assure you that most of my colleagues from Kisii and Nyamira are not with him. He dwells on divisive politics."

Dr Matiang'i has stood out as de facto Gusii leader in the recent past given his position in government but the MPs have warned that he has exceeded his mandate.

Jubilee Youth Leader Brian Mamboleo however defends the minister from the onslaught, accusing the MPs of politicising important state matters.

"None of them can tell you about Matiang'i's mistakes if any. They fear his output as minister. Most of them are scared that he could contest a local seat," he argued.
