Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Monday met the man who President Uhuru Kenyatta tasked to ensure majority of Mombasa residents vote for him in 2017.
Joho, hosted Najib Balala who by then was Tourism Cabinet Secretary at his office where they deliberated on how best to transform the tourism industry at the Coast.
Balala after the 2017 campaigns retained his Tourism CS position when Uhuru made new cabinet appointments after being sworn in.
Although he did not contest for any elective position during the August 8th general election, Balala was among leaders from Coast who vigorously campaigned for Jubilee in the region. He worked alongside then Jubilee Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahbal in the Jubilee campaign team.
"Today I had the pleasure of hosting Cabinet Secretaries Hon Najib Balala (Tourism and Wildlife) and Hon Keriako Tobiko (Environment and Forestry) who paid me a courtesy call in my office," Joho said in a tweet shortly after the meeting.
"We discussed means of promoting tourism and improving tourism attraction sites in Mombasa. I welcome closer working ties between the County and National Governments for the betterment of Mombasa as a key gateway to Kenya."
Joho also said they agreed to work together in decommissioning Kibarani dumpsite "among other issues of mutual concern specifically on the Mombasa County Rejuvenation Plan".
Joho trounced Shahbal to retain his seat as governor in the county that overwhelmingly voted for opposition chief Raila Odinga.
