They noted the home support was crucial and cautioned that the current political divisions being witnessed in the region may sabotage Ruto's bid to become Kenya's next president.

"We want our leaders to avoid wrangles that might scuttle our son's presidential ambition in 2022," Benjamin Kitur told the Nation on Wednesday.

A number of politicians allied to Jubilee have abandoned Ruto for KANU chairman Gideon Moi who has also declared an interest in the top seat.

Moi, who is the son of retired President Daniel Moi, has repeatedly been accused by DP's allies of being used by ODM leader Raila Odinga to undermine Ruto's ambition.

Kalenjin Myoot Council of Elders chairman John Seii called on local politicians to unite and strategise to ensure the community clinches power in 2022.

He disclosed they are in the final stages of launching a campaign programme aimed and rallying Kalenjins and other communities behind the DP.

"Charity begins at home and we shall be holding meetings with our people before reaching out to other communities," said Seii.

"We are already in touch with elders from the Gema and Luo communities, among other ethnic groups, to support our cause," he added.
