Cecilia Waruguru Muriithi, 36, was found guilty of murder by a Naivasha court.

On Tuesday, Justice Richard Mwongo handed Waruguru a life sentence, noting that lesser charges against her would be interpreted wrongly by those who might find themselves in a similar situation.

“In my view, a non-custodial sentence will pass the wrong message to many women and men stuck in situations where their spouses are in romantic affairs with girlfriends and boyfriends, commonly known as “mpango wa kando''.

“For these reasons, and having considered all the factors, I sentence the accused to life imprisonment with effect from April 1, 2019. The sentence shall be subjected to review after 20 years upon the accused’s demonstration of good conduct,” the judge ruled as quoted by Nation.

In 2013 between June 30th and July 1 at Kingori Estate, Maai Mahiu, the life of Susan Wanjiku Kihiu, by then only 22 years old was brought to an abrupt end by Waruguru, who was their neighbour.

Sources indicate the law student had scored straight As in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) before she was given a chance to study law at UoN.

Waruguru suspected Susan was having a sexual relationship with her husband after seeing them together on several occasions.

The deceased body was found with multiple stab wounds. It also had some signs of a burning effect caused by either hot water or liquid of a similar effect.

The body had been dumped next to the deceased's home.
