Police are looking for a woman who allegedly dumped her child in a toilet after giving birth at a hospital in Kitui County.
Kitui Level 4 Hospital's Medical Officer in Charge (MOH) David Muthoka said the child was retrieved from the toilet alive but later died while receiving treatment at the same facility.
Muthoka said the child's mother dumped it in a toilet within the hospital's compound.
"The baby was taken out of the toilet alive, rushed for treatment but didn't make it out alive," Muthoka said.
Muthoka, however, said the woman who committed the atrocious act didn't give birth at Kitui Level 4 Hospital.
"No. The woman who did this didn't give birth in this hospital, there's a possibility she's from outside," he said.
Muthoka addressed the press at the facility on Wednesday.
He condemned the act terming it as inhuman.
Muthoka said women should be responsible once they conceive and given birth, they should not dump their children.
"Women should avoid dumping babies after giving birth, that's very inhuman because there are people out there wishing to concieve and every person has a right to live," Muthoka said.
The body was removed to the same hospital's mortuary.
