Kenya National Union of Teachers has revealed plans to push the Teachers Service Commission to be under Ministry of Education in the proposed referendum.
Speaking in Nyaribari Masaba constituency during an education function, Albert Onkoba, the Masaba Branch KNUT Secretary, accused the commission of disrespecting teachers.
"This is what we will do as KNUT and we have agreed. In the coming referendum we will push the Teachers Service Commission to be under the Ministry of Education so that we can have one body," he said.
"Other commissions respect and does not fight with employees. But our TSC is always at loggerheads with us for no good reason," he argued.
The Vocal executive officer further said its the Kenya National Union of Teachers that tirelessly fought to have TSC as teachers employer, detaching them from PSC.
"Look at this magazine from TSC, it has clearly admitted that KNUT fought for its existence but it has turned against us. It's no longer independent," Onkoba added.
Onkoba said teachers support the new competence based curriculum but added that the Ministry of Education should listen to teachers first.
"You cannot out do the people who will be used to implement the program. They are the people who know what is good for the children. Let the ministry first listen to our proposals or else we will not support it," he said.
He said teachers will push for TSC to be stripped off independence and consequently, operate under the ministry of education in the impending referendum.
