Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba has claimed that Members of Parliament were bribed to shoot down the sugar report.
Ms Wa Muchomba, appearing before the Powers and Privileges committee chaired by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, alleged that the MPs were bribed by Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.
Ms Wa Muchomba said that minutes to the sitting of the afternoon session on the report on the sugar scandal, she followed a few of the woman representatives to the ladies' toilets and overheard their talk.
She claimed she was at the washroom area when she overhead some women MPs saying they had been given money by Ms Gedi in a bid to shoot down the report.
The woman rep said the female MPs were discussing the amounts that each had been given by Ms Gedi but she, however, said she did not see Ms Gedi give out the money.
“I was going to have my lunch when I started seeing members trooping to the new restaurant. They came back excited and a member told me to get my 'greeting'.”
“I went to washroom area and while there I heard people saying they had been given Sh10,000 by honorable Fatuma Gedi to shoot down the sugar report. One of the female MPs said 'She should have given you Sh30,000’,” said Ms Wa Muchomba.
Ms Gedi has, however, denied the claims saying the accusations against her are malicious and directed to tarnish her name.
