Citizen TV news anchor Lulu Hassan is no doubt the most celebrated Swahili news anchor in Kenya. Her combination with her co-host Rashid Abdalla, who is also her husband has amazed many Kenyans. Lulu Khadija Hassan has so many interesting things you need to know. Here are the top five:
1. She is half Kenyan
Lulu Hassan was born from parents of Seychellois descent. Her mother was born of a Kenyan Kikuyu and a Seychellois. Her father also had Seychellois roots. Many people believe Lulu Hassan has Somali roots, which isn’t the case.
2. She studied as a cabin crew hostess
Lulu Hassan first undertook training at Salrene Travel Operations College as a cabin crew hostess, human resource manager and ticketing officer. However, after landing a job at a radio station, she went back to school to pursue journalism.
3. Initially, she used to read English news
Her first media job was at Radio Salaam in Mombasa. She made her name at this radio station where she used to read English news. Many people loved her for her good English.
4. She was involved in a deadly road accident
In 2010, Lulu Hassan was involved in a terrible road accident that left her with an injured leg. The injury on her left leg still affects her up to date and that’s why she doesn’t dance alongside her fellow co-hosts.
5. She met her love at work
Lulu Hassan is happily married to Rashid Abdalla. She met Rashid at work while still working in Mombasa at Radio Salaam. She revealed that her voice attracted Rashid who came looking for her at work.
