Ngilu said continued stay of the CSs in office, while they are battling alleged graft accusations, contravenes Chapter Six of the Constitution on integrity.

Addressing the press in Kitui town on Friday, Ngilu noted that graft allegations being leveled against some Cabinet Secretaries are serious.

"The only thing they (CSs) must do is to step aside as they wait for their names to be cleared by the relevant investigating agencies,” Ngilu said.

According to Ngilu, the alleged graft being unearthed in some state agencies is alarming and need urgent action to save public coffers.

The Kitui governor asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to remain firm and act tough on corrupt officials.

She said corruption can easily sink the government if perpetrators are not punished.

The NARC governor also urged state agencies probing corruption to push for asset recovery.

“Kenyans want to see the money stolen returned and suspects jailed” she added.

The renewed war against corruption continues to cause ripples among some politicians.

A section of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto is accusing the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) of targeting him in the war against graft.

Kenyatta has vowed to step up the war against corruption, warning that state officials implicated will not be spared.

He said the war on graft will be extended to counties.
