Speaking on Milele FM’s 'Kivumbi' on Monday morning, Passaris noted that the push which enjoys the full support of opposition leader Raila Odinga is unclear.

The close Raila-ally said that the group in support of the constitutional amendment push must first invest its time in fully explaining what it wants to be changed and its benefits to the people.

‘’Najua Raila anataka mabadiliko ya katiba ila hakuna anayejua hayo mabadiliko yanahusu nini. Ni bora tuelezwe kwanza (I am aware that Raila wants the referendum, but he should first tell us what exactly is being addressed),’’she said.

She further noted that the nation is not financially capable of sponsoring the same, especially now when Kenya is facing financial hardships financing its massive foreign debt.

‘’Kenya tuko na madeni mengi na hatuna pesa zingine tena za kutumia kwa mabadiliko ya katiba, tulipe madeni kwanza (let us concentrate on paying our debts first before thinking about a referendum),’’ she added.

Odinga has repeatedly stressed the need for changes to among others, reduce the number of elective seats and reintroduce the parliamentary model of governance from the current presidential one.

Passaris is in office on Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
