Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wandayi has fired shots at a section of rival politicians who have been linking opposition leader Raila Odinga to the 2022 presidential race.
Speaking in his constituency on Friday, the leader who hails from Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) told the group to desist from being obsessed with Raila's name.
He bashed the Jubilee politicians who have been linking Raila's March 9 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta to his possible candidature in 2022, insisting that he is not in the race.
“His excellency Raila Odinga has said he is not concerned with the elections of 2022 and is not involved in the premature campaigns. He wants to be given a break.
Why do you insist on candidacy of an individual who is not on the table?" he was quoted by the Citizen Digital.
Wandayi who doubles up as the ODM Secretary for Political Affairs challenged political leaders to shun the 2022 debate and concentrate on solving problems troubling the nation.
A section of Jubilee leaders have been accusing Raila of planning to use his closeness with Uhuru to turn tables on Deputy President William Ruto who is also eyeing the top seat.
Raila has repeatedly maintained that he is not in the race, and that their truce is solely for the unification of the nation.
Instead, he has urged them to join himself and the Head of State in their unification campaign.
