A Boda boda rider who was shot and injured on Monday night in Kenyenya attacked a police officer who was with others patrolling, it has emerged.
According to Kenyenya police boss Isaac Thuranira, the rider who is currently fighting for his life at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital started causing trouble under the influence of alcohol at a local bar.
"The victim started beating the armed officer who was with his colleagues at a local bar. The officers were alerted by the bar owner to come and kick out the rider after he started causing trouble to other clients in the bar," he said.
Mr. Thuranira said the officer shot the rider in the thigh in self-defence.
"Cases of locals attacking police officers must stop. During this Christmas season, those found drinking with an aim to cause disturbance will be arrested to face prosecution," he noted.
He said police officers will be on high alert to respond to fracas resulting from drunkards.
The police boss urged locals to celebrate Christmas in peace without engaging in criminal activities adding that school going children should keep off bars and nightclubs.
