For a number of years now, it has been known publicly that Deputy President William Ruto will be vying for Presidency come 2022.
As it stands, he will vie using the Jubilee ticket and to go by 2017 elections statistics, Western Kenya is among areas Jubilee did not get many votes.
It is, therefore, one of the regions that DP Ruto has taken upon himself to increase his support by making frequent visits in the region in a bid to get more support come 2022.
Renown political commentator and the University of Nairobi lecturer Prof Herman Manyora, through his YouTube channel, has revealed one of the tactics the DP is using to get Western Kenya votes that is likely to fail.
According to Prof Manyora, DP Ruto is trying to break into the vote-rich region through former Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetangula's Ford-Kenya party.
He opines DP Ruto wants to kick out Dr Eseli from the Secretary-General position and bring in Dr Chris Wamalwa from Kiminini to replace Dr Eseli.
"The strategy seems to work through people like Wetangula. Here is the plan, You want to kick Dr Eseli out of the secretary general position. Out of a position of influence in Ford-Kenya and bring in Wamalwa," Manyora said.
In so doing, DP Ruto will have effectively taken control over the party as Dr Chris Wamalwa is DP Ruto supporter and the current deputy party leader Dr Boni Khalwale has made it clear he supports Ruto.
The fact that Moses Wetangula has been having a soft spot for DP Ruto recently means the plan is to later say Ford-Kenya and Luhya nation by extension support DP Ruto bid in 2022.
"So that together with Chris Wamalwa who is Ruto-compliant, deputy party leader Dr Boni Khalwale overly Ruto-compliant and yourself(Wetangula) a little ambivalent and coming out after that, such that you say, 'we in Ford-Kenya and indeed the Lugha Nation are supporting William Ruto," the analyst said.
However, the analyst maintains the plan will not work as .it is already known.
