Coast based human rights group Haki Africa has expressed disappointment following an extra-judicial killing in Likoni.
Police allegedly killed Mohammed Abdulrahim on Tuesday, October 30.
He is reported to have been on a boda boda in the company of two others on Thursday the morning before being stopped by alleged by three plain clothed police men at around 11am, demanding their ID cards.
"Eye witnesses report that after about a minute of talking, the police opened fire and killed Mohammed Abdulrahim on the spot. The other two colleagues ran away for fear of also being shot. After the shooting, the police officers warded off on lookers and were seen speaking on their mobile phones. In a while, a vehicle from Inuka Police Station, Likoni came and picked the body," reported Haki Africa on November 1.
In a statement, the rights group confirmed that the 34-year-old left behind two wives and four children.
The family, IPOA and Haki Africa in the company of the police, witnessed the post mortem of the body where it was revealed that the deceased was shot four times; twice on his left rib cage, once on the left shoulder and once in the neck at a close range.
One bullet was retrieved and handed over to IPOA for their investigations.
"The postmortem further revealed that the body was left exposed in the sun for a while as the skin was peeling off from the body. According to eye witnesses, there was no scuffle when the police shot the deceased."
Haki Africa is now calling for investigations over the killing and arrest of the officers concerned.
Since January 2018, there have been at least 40 reported police killings in Mombasa and its environs.
