In an exclusive interview with Citizen's Editorial Director Joe Ageyo at his (Raila) rural home in Opoda, Bondo in Siaya County, the former Premier gave details of the entire incident.

On the fateful day, in the run up to the 2017 polls, the then Kibera parliamentary hopeful was chairing a women's meeting at a Naivasha Hotel when she suddenly collapsed.

Raila, then eyeing the Presidency, said that he was on a flight with his youngest daughter Winnie Odinga to Turkana when Winnie received a text about the accident in Naivasha.

Rosemary would then be rushed to Nairobi for medical attention and later airlifted to South Africa for further treatment after an operation at a Nairobi hospital.

“After the operation in Nairobi, she was comatose for 8 days so we had to send her by air ambulance to South Africa where she stayed for three months.

Ida (Odinga) had to take up an apartment in Johannesburg,” he is quoted by Citizen Digital.

However, it took a Chinese professor to detect that the tumor was not completely addressed, resulting to Rosemary undergoing another operation in China, conducted by a total of 10 surgeons.

“They took two days examining, and then they decided that they do a three-in-one operation, about ten professors, and it lasted about ten hours.

By the time they wheeled her out of the theatre, she was conscious and she could talk," he added.

In a recent interview with the same station, 41 year-old Rosemary said that the accident left her eyesight slightly handicapped, though she can slightly see.

The incident saw her shelve her political bid while her father too went ahead to lose to President Uhuru Kenyatta before boycotting the October 26 repeat poll.
