In a press conference in Nairobi on Sunday, Sifuna poked holes into claims that have been making rounds on social media that the party is plotting the DP's assassination.

He said that the party is actually praying very hard that he makes it to 2022 well and sound so that it can beat and humiliate him in the presidential race.

"We are praying for him to have a long life so that he can see Raila Odinga become the president in 2022. We are not interested in stopping him in any way," said Sifuna.

He added that the party wants the opposition boss makes it to the top seat in the full glare of the DP so that Ruto can learn from him, having been part of a failed leadership for two terms.

"We want him to see how a nation is run without corruption, tribalism and threats. We will keep praying for him to have a long life," he added.

However, the declaration about Raila's candidature is likely to raise a political debate, considering that the former Prime Minister has insisted that he has no such plans.

Ruto, on the other hand, has made it clear that he will be in the race but has urged Kenyans to shun the 2022 issue for the time being.
