If you look closely you would realise that Kitui governor Charity Ngilu and former Kathiani Member of Parliament Wavinya Ndeti have a lot in common apart from being women.

Here are the similarities between the two Ukambani women leaders;

1. They are widows

Both their husbands passed on but that didn't make them abandon their dreams of serving their respective counties.

Governor Ngilu's husband, Eng. Michael Mwendwa Ngilu died in 2006 while Wavinya Ndeti's husband Oduwole died in 2016.

2. They are strong and enduring

Both Ngilu and Wavinya Ndeti have come from far to reach where they are. Ngilu was the first woman to battle it out with men in the presidential election in 1997 where she emerged fifth.

Wavinya Ndeti is also the female gubernatorial candidate for Machakos county in two consecutive terms. She has proved her endurance for fighting in court believing she won the Machakos gubernatorial election in August 2017.

Even after losing on the ballot and the High Court, Wavinya Ndeti still pressed on to the Court of Appeal which ruled in her favour. She still believes she will clinched the seat in case of a by-election.

3. They are go-getters

These women have proved that nothing can stop them in their quest to achieve their dreams. They have 'invaded' the male-dominated career without looking back. Ngilu and Wavinya Ndeti haven't given up despite the many times they have lost in elections.
