A high profile meeting between between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru was a culmination of underground realignments that could shape the country's 2022 presidential elections, an ODM official has confirmed.
In what took the country by surprise, Raila hosted Waiguru, a former Devolution minister and a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta after three years of strained relationship.
"We discussed on how to work together and H. E Raila Odinga has assured me of support. I have also withdrawn the defamation suit against him. Let our past be," said Waiguru after Wednesday's meeting.
Through his aides, President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to have asked his handlers to organise a meeting between the two to 'find the best working formula'
Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe and Raphael Tuju are said to have reached Waiguru and Raila, asking them to reconcile following the directive by the president.
"It took a few weeks to organise the meeting. The president through his handlers instructed Waiguru to bury her differences with Raila for the spirit of handshake.
"He also wants the two leaders to work together. Just get it from me, State House had everything to do with the meeting. You'll start seeing more leaders from central trooping into Capitol Hill," he said.
Since March 9th handshake, Raila, who has since secured a job at AU, has hosted more leaders from Central Kenya, Uhuru's stronghold than any other region in Kenya further raising suspicions.
The meeting comes days after President Uhuru Kenyatta seemingly warned Mt Kenya leaders from their persistent tours with DP William Ruto with Moses Kuria said to have been the victim.
But ODM Treasurer Timothy Bosire says that the two leaders had the right to meet regardless of the situation and circumstances.
"There is no need for suspicions. These are two national leaders who agreed to bury their differences for the sake of peaceful coexistence," he said.
