They were once celebrated radio queens which could perhaps be the reason as to why when they first made their maiden bid into politics, they never got it wrong.

The trio has worked for the three main Kikuyu stations, Kameme FM, Inooro FM and Coro FM where they once served as heads of radio. We enumerate the three below, one at a time.

1. Sabina Chege

She is the current Muranga Women Representative now serving her second term. During her radio days her fans knew her as Wanjiru Wa Chege.

Chege started at Kameme FM in the early 2000s where she was the host of the night show 'Therera'. Fans would often refer to her as the 'Queen of the night'. On Friday nights she would couple with the 'King of Mugithi', Mike Rua, for the best of the 'mugithi' music one could ever get.

Chege would, however, in 2010 decamp from Kameme FM to Coro FM where she would become the head of radio as well as the station's breakfast presenter. This is where Chege worked before venturing into politics in 2013.

2. Wanjiku Wa Kibe.

She was the Kameme FM mid-morning show 'Canjamuka' presenter as well as a Sunday Gospel show 'Ndigithu ya Kigoco'.

Wanjiku would go up the ladder to become Kameme FM's head of radio before she was hounded out in 2012 due to the station's plummeting audience ratings. But after the 2013 general elections, she would become a nominated MCA at Kiambu County Assembly.

In 2017, Wanjiku successfully vied for the Gatundu North parliamentary seat. Her election is, however, being contested in court by former area MP, Clement Waibara.

3. Gathoni Wa Muchomba

She was also the Kameme FM mid-morning show host before she was poached by Royal Media Services in 2003. Wa Muchomba was the founding head of Inooro FM.

In 2006 she would decamp from Inooro FM to go and start another Kikuyu radio station, Bahasha FM, alongside former Naivasha MP John Mututho.

The station became a flop right from the start with reports that it was denied the Nairobi frequency to avoid competing with Inooro FM.

In 2014, Gathoni would start her own Kikuyu TV station, Utugi TV, which was packaged to suit Kikuyu farmers' needs. At the same time, she would go back to where she started, Kameme FM where she was the presenter of the popular Saturday show 'Muiguthania'.

It is from here, that she launched her bid for the Kiambu County Women Representative seat where she was elected in 2017 with close to one million votes.
