Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has wished the national football team Harambee Stars good luck ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations set to kick off on Friday, in Cairo, Egypt.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Khalwale noted that the team had the full backing of over 50 million Kenyans.
“Congratulations Harambee Stars for landing safely in Egypt ahead of the 2019 AFCON tournament. It has been a long and painful 15 years absence from this finals. 52.1million Kenyans are right behind you. Good luck,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
Harambee Stars landed in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday night.
The team touched down in Egypt after a 19-day residential camp in France, where they prepared for the competition.
Harambee Stars played two friendly matches against Madagascar and DRC in preparation for the continental tournament.
The team hammered Madagascar 1-0, and drew with DRC 1-1.
Harambee Stars will face Algeria on Sunday in their first match, after which they will later face Senegal and Tanzania.
Players to watch during the competition include; Kashiwa Reysole’s Michael Olunga, Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama, who is also the captain of the team, among other notable names.
