Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja is now accusing some members of the ruling Jubilee Party of overlooking President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In an interview on Radio Citizen Monday morning, Sakaja hit out at the Jubilee faction allied to Deputy President William Ruto of repeatedly undermining Uhuru who doubles up as the party leader.
He cited the March 9 truce between Uhuru and Raila and the Mau Forest evictions, both of which received heavy condemnation from some allies of the DP.
He revealed having already cautioned National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, a top Ruto ally, of the same, noting that the team does not have any authority to question the national leader.
‘’Haiwezi kuwa watu wale wanamuundermine Rais na kila kitu anachofanya wanampinga. Wakati wa handshake walionekana wakipinga kisha tena wakati wa Mau Forest wakasikika wakitupa maneno (they cannot keep undermining the President and opposing each of his activities),’’ said Sakaja.
Regarding the continued politicking which is more evident on Ruto’s side as the DP prepares to contest to succeed Uhuru in 2022, Sakaja defended the side, doubting any possibility of politicking coming to a halt.
He termed it unrealistic for anyone to think that the Uhuru-Raila truce would have driven 2022 hopefuls into political silence, adding that they are also well within their rights, regardless of majority of Kenyans being against the move.
‘’Handshake haijasimamisha siasa. Siasa lazima zitakuwepo (politicking will always exist even after the handshake),’’ added the lawmaker.
This comes amid reports of there being cracks within the party regarding the 2022 succession debate, remarks Ruto has, however, since laughed off.
