Kapseret Member of Parlement Oscar Sudi has warned leaders who support the prospective constitutional changes terming the move as burdensome.
Speaking during a burial ceremony in So constituency on Tuesday, Sudi said Kenyans were already suffering from hard economic times and, further taxing them to finance issues of less priority such as a referendum, would make the situation worse.
The legislator pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to the rescue of Kenyans who have faced financial shocks from paying taxes following recently concluded 2017 general elections.
Sudi expressed his disaffection over insensitive leaders who have decided to pursue selfish interests through a referendum.
"I am telling you Uhuru, Raila Odinga and Ruto to stop burdening Kenyans with the referendum," the furious legislator said.
"You have been wondering around, coming up with strategies, then suddenly changing them when they fail to work. It is better you consult us as leaders to help you come up with workable solutions to problems" he added.
The vocal MP further questioned the need for the referendum, arguing that leaders should stop preoccupying themselves with selfish reforms that would have negative implications to the lives of citizens.
"Why do you want to continue making Kenyans suffer that much and for how long are you going to do this?" wondered Sudi.
Leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga and DP Ruto have been hinting on a possibility of having a plebiscite in order to alter some aspects in the constitution especially systems of governance.
This, according to the Jubilee MP, will force Kenyans to pay more taxes to finance the initiative.
