A 30-year-old police officer died after he was allegedly stabbed by another man at a bar in Keroka town, Nyamira County on Thursday night.
Confirming the incident Keroka OCPD Walter Apondo said he could not reveal the name of the deceased until his family is notified.
The OCPD noted that the deceased went to the bar after work to enjoy with friends when a quarrel ensued between him and the suspect Evans Machuka.
"The suspect accused the deceased of plotting to snatch away his woman. He pulled a knife from his jacket and stabbed the officer in the stomach," said the OCPD as Egesa Fm reports indicated on Friday.
Apondo said the suspect fled from the bar immediately after stabbing the police officer.
"The deceased was rushed to Gucha hospital for treatment but, unfortunately, he died while receiving treatment. His body was moved to the hospital's mortuary," stated Apondo.
He assured that a manhunt has been launched to arrest the suspect.
The OCPD appealed to members of the public to help police with information which will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
Apondo called on residents to tolerate each other and stop taking the law into their hands.
