Appeals court sitting in Nairobi gave the former MP lifeline after dismissing Wiper's Julius Mawathe's victory on grounds that the polls were not free, fair and credible.

Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who was also among the battery of lawyers representing Sumra, said the party will fight hard to reclaim the seat.

"All along we have shown that the Embakasi South victory was not accurate and today we have been vindicated," he said.

The youthful politician added: "We shall move to the people and showcase the party's unwavering support. We shall win and that is a guarantee."

Sumra, who narrowly lost to Mawathe in August, has been part of the committee appointed by Raila Odinga to investigate general performance across the country.

Nyando MP Jared Okello backed the ruling adding that it vindicates the party's common stand that 2017 elections were stolen.

"The party has had a number of her candidates victory confirmed in court. By extent, it is a clarification that we were robbed," he added.
