The Senate committee probing Solai dam tragedy has accused government officials of conflict of interest.
The committee wants Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha and several administrators under him suspended.
Led by their chair Mutula Kilonzo Jr, the committee said the administrators are out to protect the owners of the dam that killed 47 people after it broke its banks.
The development came as it emerged that Nkanatha and his administrators led a compensation process on behalf of the dam owner while at the same time they are the ones expected to investigate the crime.
The Senate committee also rubbished the owner’s offer of Sh100, 000 indemnity to victims saying they must be served due justice.
This comes as other shocking details surfaced of how administrators allegedly colluded with ‘brokers’ to deny those affected the rightful compensation. There were also reports that the victims were forced to sign compensation forms.
Area Assistant County Commissioner and chiefs have also been accused of sneaking in names of individuals who were not affected by the tragedy in order to get fraudulent benefits.
Efforts to get a comment from Nkanatha were futile.
