Known for Lake Nakuru National Park, the scenic Menengai Crater among other breathtaking sites, the town is one of the best places one can enjoy a weekend away.

But forget the popular sites that eat into your wallet, there is a place called Mlima Ugali.

It is one of the places you cannot miss to visit.

The name was derived from Ugali, since the hill, from a distance, looks like a lump of ugali. According to the local community, the hill was holy and they call it Kimenderit.

Residents narrated to this writer that for generations, the ancestors of the Kalenjin community met on the hill to conduct prayers.

The community believes prayers held at the hill are answered quickly and favourably.

As younger generations take over social life, Mlima Ugali has now become a picnic site for the youth.

“There are usually several parties hiking to place every weekend and from atop the hill, one is treated to a breath-taking panoramic view of Nakuru. When you are at the top you can you can see the whole of Nakuru town, most of Lake Nakuru National park and Menengai Crater,” Amos Bett, from the Department of Tourism and Trade in Nakuru, wrote.
