Kenya is growing technologically at the highest pace and it is high time Kenyans embrace it. Soon enough, jobs done by experts will be replaced by expert systems.

Having understood this, Felix Biego, a Computer Science student at the University of Eldoret (UOE) has decided to be part of this inevitable technological change through developing software and hardware that can help in achieving this growth of technology in the country.

He is always motivated by simple problems faced by the residents of Uasin Gishu County, a majority of who are farmers.

One of the problems that Biego has solved is the difficulty experienced by farmers who use tractors in their agriculture.

Some of the tractors are too old and starting them is always a nightmare. Through his outstanding knowledge, he has developed a simple software that can be used to start the tractors. Just by a single press on the screen of an Android phone, the tractor starts automatically without any effort.

The Computer Science student has also developed a prototype of a solar panel that can sense the position of the sun and adjust to it. This is meant to maximize the solar energy that is used by many residents not only in the Uasin Gishu county but also the entire nation.

He also believes that he can place the technology to the Uasin Gishu County and the nation, as far as agriculture is concerned, into the next level by improving what has been done and coming up with new ideas of what is missing.

“If someone has done it, can I do it myself? Or if it has not been done, am I able to do it?” said Biego.

The young nerd is now pleading for any kind of support that will enable him to commercialize his prototypes and so many ideas that he has in mind.
