The family through lawyer Charles Kanjama has written to Haji asking him to arrest Garissa Governor Ali Korane and his brother Mohamed Bunow Korane over the attempted murder.

According to the family, Korane is the main suspect in their son’s attempted murder.

In an interview with a local daily a month ago, the former CEC’s father Adan Mukhtar claimed that the plot to kill his son was hatched after he allegedly filed a case against Governor Korane challenging his academic papers.

Adan says that his son used to receive threats from people he well knew.

According to the father, the killers even revealed that they had been sent by ‘powerful’ people to eliminate his son.

He further alleged that the assassins even demanded money from his son to abandon their plans.

“He used to receive threatening messages and as the family we advised him to report to the police,” he said.

Mukhtar was shot three times on the head by assassins in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area on August 19.

A bullet is lodged in his head.

A key suspect, David Mwai who allegedly confessed to having been sent to kill Mukhtar along his lawyer Kanjama died at Parklands police station last month.

Only two suspects, Hussein Aden, and Juliet Njoki have been charged in connection with the attempted murder.

Governor Korane who is among people quizzed in the attempted murder has denied any involvement.

Mukhtar has since been flown to India for specialised treatment.

All eyes are now on DPP Haji since the former CEC’s lawyer claims that the investigation file has been forwarded to him.
