However, the region is likely to witness a change of operations in 2022, where a number of young leaders are expected to come to power.

Here are some of them:

1. Eddy Oketch

The two-time Migori Senatorial hopeful appears the man to beat in the same race come 2022.

This is after he closely lost to Ochilo Ayacko in a by election held months ago.

The latter is very likely to finally realize the dream in the coming poll, and is assured of a win should he jump over to the dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) bloc.

He proved his political worth in the previous by election when he managed to wage a big war against ODM.

In the course of the campaigns, he forced opposition leader Raila Odinga to camp in the region for three days to campaign against him.

2. Opondo Kaluma

The Homabay Township lawmaker is also expected to try his luck in a bigger seat in the approaching polls.

He has been termed as one of the possible names that will feature in the race to succeed Cyprian Awiti as the Homabay Governor.

The latter is a close ally of Odinga, whose endorsement is almost an election assurance in the region.

He boasts of massive political and legal experience and is ranked among the most popular leaders in the region and the entire nation.

3. Otiende Amollo

Amollo is among the most celebrated youthful lawmakers in the nation.

He gained more popularity courtesy of his involvement in Odinga's successful petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2017 reelection

Back in his Rarieda constituency, he has initiated a number of development projects, among them the 'Ondoa Nyasi' initiative which seeks to improve housing for widows.

He is very likely to be pushed into running for the higher Siaya Senatorial seat in 2022 by his constituents, and will obviously clinch the seat currently held by Senator James Orengo.

4. Jared Okelo

He is the Nyando parliamentarian and one of the most popular and equally vocal politicians in the larger Kisumu County.

Should he join the race to succeed his predecessor Fred Outa, who is ironically the current area Senator, he will be better placed to oust the controversial Senator.

His hailed development projects include his ongoing efforts to procure cheap ploughing services for his constituents.

There are also several ongoing school constructions in the constituency.

5. Moses Kajwang'

The Homabay Senator is likely to defend his seat should he vie again.

This is with consideration that apart from his apparent good job as a lawmaker, no notable opponent has come out to challenge him so far.

His family has had a good relationship with the Odingas, and his brother Tom Kajwang' put his life on the line to swear Raila in as the People's President on January 30.

This was despite the fact that the event was considered treasonous.
