There was drama at a Nakuru court after an accused person forced a judge and court staff to take the hearing out of the courtroom and into a vehicle in which he was brought.
The suspect, Simon Kipng'eno Sigei who is facing robbery with violence charges refused to disembark from the Directorate or Criminal Investigations (DCI) car, and instead remained sleeping and trembling with his eyes closed.
This forced Principal Magistrate Faith Munyi to conduct the hearing from beside the car.
Investigative officer Daniel Gichuki said that the suspect had remained silent since he was locked up at the Menengai Police Station on April 23.
“The accused has not responded to any of our questions or any conversations. He has just been sleeping,” Gichuki who however believed that the suspect was faking sickness was quoted by the Standard.
Kipngeno was later carried to the courtroom where he completely refused to speak, forcing the judge to postpone the hearing to May 6.
The court directed that the accused be taken to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital for a mental checkup.
“The accused to be remanded at Nakuru GK Prison pending the plea and bond terms application," the Magistrate directed.
The suspect was arrested when he, while in the company of other men, reportedly attacked and killed a man named Peter Bore and his daughter Judy Chepkorir, before defiling Chepkorir's two daughters in Rongai area on February 12.
