Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) has banned Kenyan footballer from all football related activities for 10 years.
The FIFA axe has fallen on former Sofapaka, Tusker FC and Mathare United defender George ‘Wise’ Owino after being found guilty of alleged match fixing.
“Moreover, the Kenyan player Mr George Owino Audi has been banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at both national and international level (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of ten (10) years.
"In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 15,000 (Sh.1.5 million) has been imposed upon him.” FIFA statement is quoted by Goal.com.
The statement adds that the formal disciplinary proceedings against the defender stemmed from an extensive investigation into various international matches, that an alleged international match fixer Mr Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes.
The matches involved national soccer team Haramee Stars. Owino played for Harambee Stars staring 2005.
The Daily Nation reports that the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) report released in September 2018, revealed that Owino, through 177 email communications exchanged between him and high-profile international match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal, conspired to manipulate and influence the result of international matches involving Kenya.
George Owino is now retired.
