As part of Governor Jackson Mandago’s vision of e-service and bringing services closer to the youth, Uasin Gishu County is spearheading provision of free Wi-Fi and network hotspots across various parts of the County.
The county has already expressed interest in offering free Wi-Fi to locals in two areas within Eldoret town; Nandi Park and the Eldoret Kenya Library Services.
Speaking on Thursday while opening a Safaricom Shop in Eldoret town, Trade, ICT and Industrialization County Executive Dr Emily Kogos further called on the service provider to work on ways of providing free Wi-Fi at various spots across the town.
This, she said will enable people to explore the many online opportunities.
"As a County, we are proud to have gone electronic in all our services and we believe with the service provider coming closer to the people will make access to our services easier and convenient," noted Dr Kogos.
So far, the County has established four ICT centres spread across its wards and looks forward to opening more centres at least one per ward.
After the opening of the new shop, Eldoret is now the home of two customer care shops.
The county's capital is also home to one of the only two call centres across the country for the giant mobile service provider.
