Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has joined fellow leaders, Kenyans, and the family of retired president Daniel Moi in mourning the late Jonathan Toroitich Moi.

Jonathan was the eldest son to the former President, and reportedly succumbed to cancer while in Nakuru county on Friday.

In his message, the county boss expressed his deep sorrow on learning about the departure of the former rally driver, terming him a great man whose skills excited Kenyans.

He sent his condolences, alongside those from all the 47 governors in his capacity as the Council of Governors Chair, wishing the Moi family strength at this hard time.

"I have learnt with deep sorrow the passing of Jonathan Toroitich, a veteran motor sportsman. One of the rally drivers who ignited the excitement of many Kenyans along the rally routes every Easter. On behalf of the Council of Governors and my family, my heart goes out to his family as they mourn," he tweeted on Sunday.

Other leaders who have sent in their messages of condolence include President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.

Others are Deputy President William Ruto, Chief Justice David Maraga, among other notable political figures across the country.
