Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has mourned the death of billionaire businessman Jeremiah Gitau Kiereini.
Kiereini died on Monday at the age of 90.
According to Nairobi county boss, he was saddened by the news of the tycoon's death.
In Sonko's condolences message through his official Facebook page, he described the late as a dedicated civil servant.
"It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing on last evening of Mzee Jeremiah Gitau Kiereini, the Former Head Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet who served the country with dedication as a career civil servant and later a member of the Board of a dozen blue chip companies here in Nairobi County." the governor said in his Facebook post.
He also condoled with the widow of the late Kiereini who is an alumnus of Makerere University.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had also mourned Kiereini saying his death is a loss to the nation.
He described the late who is a former Indian High Commission as a patriotic Kenyan.
"President Kenyatta said the late Kiereini remains an important part of Kenya's public service history due to his many achievements key among them being the role he played in the modernization of the Kenyan military when he served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence," said the President.
