According to KQ, the move has been necessitated by an increase in the demand of its services by traders plying the Kenya-Somali route, mostly Somali businesspeople.

Sebastian Mikosz, KQ CEO, says that the launch of the flights is aimed at streamlining business between Kenya and Somalia.

"We want to extend our network reach and make it convenient for our guests who work and invest in Somalia," he said in a statement issued to media houses.

The flights are bound to empower Garissa County and the greater North Eastern region from where a bulk of Kenyan-Somali traders hail from.

These traders buy goods from war-torn Somalia and bring them to Kenya.
