Embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado was one of the unexpected guests who attended President Uhuru Kenyatta's function in Kisumu on Thursday.

The controversial county boss has kept a low profile since his release from the Industrial Area remand Prison in October, after a month in detention.

On Thursday, he appeared as Uhuru launched the Universal Healthcare Coverage pilot program at the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu City, reports the Nation.

He waved at the excited crowd as he walked to the main dias, causing a stir as the enthusiastic crowd gathered interest in the man facing murder charges at the High Court.

The county chief is accused of participating in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno in early September.

Obado's popularity has been doubled by his rebellious nature that has out him at loggerheads with opposition leader Raila Odinga and his allies.

He was until recently a subject of bashing from Raila's allies courtesy of his varying ideologies which have been seen to contradict those those of Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Also present for the function was the African Union Infrastructure Development Envoy, Deputy President William Ruto among abhost of other national and local leaders.

Raila and Uhuru also addressed a number of roadside rallies before the main function.
