The ODM allied governor, while speaking on Wednesday after hosted representatives from the United States Congress who paid him a courtesy call, said the plan is not aimed at stealing from Kenyans.

Ongwae said the plan is good for all Kenyans and therefore, the government should  start deducting salaries.

The vocal governor however, said Kenyans who earns below Sh20,000 should be exempted from paying the money.

He assured that his administration is determined to support the national government more especially in the implementation of the Big 4 Agenda.

"My government is committed to ensure poverty is eradicated. The people of Kisii also deserve decent houses therefore, levy deductions to help in affordable housing program is not ill intended," he noted.

The county boss challenged local politicians not to politicize the deductions adding that it will help improve the living standards of Kenyans more especially those living in slums.
