Panic has gripped Nairobi tenants and landlords living on alleged riparian land after the multi-agency task force reignited their mission to bring down all illegally constructed buildings in Nairobi.
The body met this week with the key agenda being to begin inspecting buildings.
According to the task force consisting of National Construction Authority, National Environment Management Authority and the Nairobi County, all illegally constructed buildings sitting on riparian land or having shady construction histories will be brought down.
The team began their inspections in Umoja and already a number of buildings have been marked for pulling down.
“We also want to know if contractors of upcoming buildings have approval letters from NCA, NEMA, we want to know if they have qualified supervisors and many other thing,” said Stephen Mwangi, a technical person with National Construction Authority.
Huruma is also one of the zones where many buildings are expected to be brought down.
