Elected in January, Mr Tshisekedi has already announced a coalition government with his predecessor Joseph Kabila, a move that has elicited sharp differences in the Central Africa nation.

But at Nairobi, the two leaders discussed about infrastructural development in the continent with Mr Odinga, the special AU High Representative for Infrastructural Development, focusing on road and railway transport where DR Congo played an integral partpart.

"Met with President Felix Tshisekedi for a discussion that centered on Infrastructure in Africa and the key role of the DRC which is located at the heart of the Trans Africa rail and highway networks," he wrote on Twitter. https://t.co/9QVkUULSGa

"We also touched on the importance of sufficient energy generation on the continent and how this leads to faster overall development for all our people," he added.

Mr Odinga was accompanied by Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, his veteran advisor on matters policy and political strategy. His daughter Winnie Odinga was also present.

Last month, Mr Tshisekedi, a son to late veteran Congolese opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi, also visited Mr Odinga in Nairobi where they also held closed-door meetings.

Notably, President Uhuru Kenyatta was the only sitting African president who attended Mr Felix Tshisekedi's inauguration, which was widely boycotted by political players. Also, Mr Odinga accompanied the president.
