Former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama has told speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi to resign for failing to bring MPs to order.
Muthama claims that allegations of bribery in Parliament is a clear indication that Muturi has failed in his role as the speaker.
The former senator asked Muturi to step aside and give opportunity to others who will guarantee the House integrity.
He said allegations of bribery in the House are shaming and that top leader in the House should take responsibility.
“The speaker should be accountable to the actions of his members and as such he should even quit office,” Muthama said.
Muthama spoke during an interview with a local daily on Thursday.
He said Kenyans have lost faith in their Members of Parliament.
The former senator said claims of bribery are rife stating that the vice did not start now.
Muthama asked Kenyans to monitor the conduct of their elected leaders and order for their recall if they misbehave.
“The law is very clear and gives leeway and procedure of recalling rogue leaders,” Muthama said.
A section of MPs are on the spot over allegations that they pocket money to shoot down the sugar report tabled in Parliament last week.
The MPs are allegedly said to have received briberies of between Sh10,000 and Sh30,000 to oppose the report.
On Sunday, Muturi said he has invited relevant investigative agencies to probe the bribery allegations.
