Several leaders have warned young ladies against having sponsors with the latest being Deputy President William Ruto's wife Rachel Ruto.
Acting Egerton University VC Prof Alexader Kahi, speaking to first-year students during their orientation program, also warned girls that many young souls have died because of the trend.
However, a section of campus girls say ‘sponsors are a must’.Despite the warnings, and latest deaths of girls who had affairs with older men, campus chicks dismiss the talk saying everyone has her fate.“Sponsors are a necessary evil,” one girl said.
Joy, a freshman at a Nakuru-based university, said she has tasted a ‘good life’ courtesy of a sponsor."As for me sponsors are a good thing, I have one.
He gives me money to buy anything I want and also takes me to discos to enjoy life," she said.
Interestingly, Joy said she spoils her campus boyfriend with a section of the cash she gets from the old man.
"I use some money given by the sponsor to blackmail him so that he doesn't suspect a thing," she added amid giggles.
To Cate, ‘slaying’ is a must."We are slay queens and we must slay and sponsors fall for our traps.
Sometimes having a boyfriend is like slavery because they have many rules unlike sponsors where we are the ones who make the rules," she said.
She added: "We are enjoying life before we die, everyone will eventually die after all and maybe that is how God said we will die and join Him in heaven.”
