Thirdway Alliance Party SG Frederick Okango has once again called for quick intervention into the ongoing leadership crisis in Nairobi county.
This comes at a time when the county's governor Mike Sonko remains outside his offices as per a court order, which leaves the county without a leader, given that he doesn't have a deputy.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday morning, Okango said that there is a dire need for a solution, to save the county which is currently running with an empty executive arm, which should be led by the governor and deputy.
"We need to be concerned with what is happening at City Hall, We don't have a substantive leadership in the county assembly and the executive," he said.
On Sunday, he called for the impeachment of the governor, as per Article 181 and Section 33 of the County Government Act of the Constitution of Kenya.
He termed this the only remaining option for the county, challenging the County Speaker Beatrice Elachi to convene a special sitting to have the impeachment motion tabled.
"To save Nairobi, impeachment of the County boss as provided for in Article 181 of CoK 2010 read together with Section 33 of County Government Act, 2012 is clear. Speaker Beatrice Elachi should go ahead and approve a special sitting," he wrote.
Already, a number of Members of the Nairobi County Assembly have embarked on a push to impeach Sonko, led by Minority Whip Peter Imwatok.
