Boda boda operators from Etago area, South Mogirango constituency in Kisii, on Monday picked a war with the DC of Etago when he went against their ways of voting their leaders.
The DC by the name Benson Karani had organised elections of the the boda boda riders' leaders and the elections were to be carried on at Etago. Karani had his people enclosed in the hall and locked the Boda boda riders out, who were supposed to vote.
The riders were angry at the DC' s action and demonstrated for a short time before they headed to Etago Police station to report a breach of their rights. This was a sign that they were raged over the DC's action.
According to the chairman of Boda boda riders in Etago who was only identified as Masaku, pointed out how Karani faulted the whole process making them feel that Karani was more authoritative.
"As Boda boda riders we must have leaders. Therefore we went to vote for the leaders. As we reached Etago, the DC had his people enclosed in the hall who would do the voting while the Boda boda riders were locked out. After a short demonstration, we reported the matter to the Etago police station," Masaku said.
"Today's elections were bungled. We refer to these elections as DC's. We know that we already have our leaders who we had voted for," Bichang'a Nelson a chairman from Bochicho ward also said.
