Issuing the stern caution on Friday, Garissa County secretary Abdi M Ali advised county staff to limit their off-duty schedules to constitutionally-gazetted public holidays lest they get fired for desertion.

Abdi was speaking during the official closing ceremony of Trainers of Trainers (TOT) conference for members at the Department of Trade, Investment and Entrepreneurs.

"Kindly be warned. Most of you working at the county are locals and this means you will not be traveling far for the Christmas festivities to join your individual families or friends. I don't find a reason why you should close offices in the name of the Christmas holidays," stated the County Secretary.

The County Secretary further reminded the public servants that strict adherence to laid down codes of regulations was not a choice but a requirement in bid to boost service delivery across the various sub-counties.

Other powerful county official present during the closing ceremony were Trade and Tourism chief officer Mahat Salah and CEC Adow Jubat.
