Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has condoled with the families who lost their loved ones in the horror Fort Tenan accident in Kericho that claimed 56 lives on Wednesday morning.
Ngilu said the accident was horrifying and urged Kenyans to pray for the families of the victims and survivors.
“I am deeply saddened that we continue to lose lives on our roads at an alarming rate,” Ngilu said.
She addressed the press in Kitui town on Thursday.
The Kitui governor pleaded with state agencies tasked with road safety to do their work well so as to prevent more road accidents on Kenyan roads.
She said the existing laws on road safety must be implemented to the latter to save innocent lives.
Fifty six people died when the bus they were traveling in was involved in grisly accident along the Kericho-Londiani highway on Wednesday morning.
The bus christened 'Homeboyz' was traveling from Nairobi to Kakamega.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has since directed the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and forward the file to his office for action.
The owner of the bus that operates under Western Express Sacco has since been arrested and is being detained as the investigation into the horror accident continue.
