Campaigns to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta are on. All NASA coalition principles still have their dreams and Deputy President William Ruto has confirmed that his name will be in the ballot box.

Political analysts and surveys indicate that DP Ruto will win the race but in politics, the final results matter and these are some of the ways which can make Ruto lose his presidential bid;

Formation of a strong alliance

DP Ruto’s competitors may decide to come together and compete against him. A coalition comprising of leaders from different parts of the country will get the support of a majority of Kenyans leaving Ruto and his allies with the support Kenyans from their strongholds. With a strong opponent coalition, Ruto will automatically lose the election.

Poor performance by the Jubilee government

By 2022, Jubilee party under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and the DP will have ruled for ten years. Yes, this government has a scorecard, but to some extent, Kenyans have felt disappointed by Jubilee administration. High levels of corruption and the recent 2018 Finance Bill will remain in the hears of Kenyans. This might make it hard for DP Ruto to convince Kenyans that these were beyond his control and his leadership will not repeat the same.

Desertion by Kenyatta and Mt. Kenya region

It is clear that William Ruto only enjoys massive support from the Rift Valley and Mt. Kenya regions. After his support to president Kenyatta, DP Ruto expects the same from the president and his region. If Uhuru fails to adhere to his promise in 2022 and support another candidate, then this will be a major blow to Ruto’s ambitions and he will easily lose.
