Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has once again openly drummed support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking on Monday, Khalwale termed Ruto as the best option for the Luhya region, noting that he has demonstrated his leadership skills courtesy of his development record.
Khalwale had accompanied the DP who commissioned the construction of a planned Medical Training College in Iguhu, Ikolomani, Kakamega County.
He ranked him above some fellow leaders from the region like Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, whom he claimed never did anything notable for the region despite holding the Deputy Head of State position at some point.
He added that the region will as well not rally behind opposition leader Raila Odinga whom it has repeatedly backed in his previous futile presidential bids.
“Our own sons, including former Vice-President Moody Awori and Musalia Mudavadi served in the same position as the DP, but did not use their influence to initiate any meaningful development in the region.
We will not be fooled this time around to back Mr Odinga,” Dr Khalwale was quoted by the Nation.
Khalwale said that Ruto has done a lot for the community and deserves an appreciation in the form of support come 2022.
The former Kakamega gubernatorial hopeful was in the front line in campaigning for Raila in the 2017 general elections.
He was in the team that also included Mudavadi against President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto, but seems to have made a U-turn on the Deputy President's camp.
